Summary
The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Unit Training Supervisor is responsible for administering training within their assigned unit. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Supervises a small professional staff by interviewing applicants, recommending for hire, approving leave, training employees, making work assignments, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Conducts training through lectures and various other training methods. Conducts or supervises the research, development, evaluation, and updates of training courses as needed. Serves on the ADC training committee, presents staff training needs and requirements to committee members, and assists with determining agency training needs. Monitors and assists with maintaining training profiles on each staff member by documenting and filing types of training, number of training hours, and dates attended. Prepares various forms, correspondence, and reports as requested. Approves requests from staff for the issuance of new uniforms and badges. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of correctional programs, policies, procedures, and regulations. Knowledge of training program development and presentation techniques. Ability to research, develop, revise, and present training programs. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, education, public administration, or a related field; plus one year of experience in corrections, training, or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
