Occasional in-state travel may be required.  Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License. Reliable transportation and proof of vehicle insurance is required.

 

CLC Certification preferred.

 

Must be or have been a WIC participant.

 

Must have successfully breastfed one (1) infant for at least six (6) months.

 

Good communication skills and work ethics preferred.

 

Must be available to work outside of the usual clinic hours and locations.

Salary Range: $32,405.00 - $51,686.00

Summary

The Lactation Consultant is responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems experienced by expectant and new mothers. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services for all breast-feeding patients. Assists patients in the selection and use of appropriate breast-feeding related supplies. Consults with mothers having breast-feeding problems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of breast-feeding techniques. Ability to assist mothers with breast-feeding skills. Ability to write breast-feeding instructions for new and expectant mothers.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus four years of experience in an infant or child care, child nutrition, or medical/health environment with an emphasis in breastfeeding practices. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
