This position will work under the supervision of the maintenance coordinator and will be responsible for the maintenance of the state park grounds, facilities, and equipment. Job duties include making minor repairs to the park’s facilities, maintaining equipment, doing basic plumbing, carpentry, welding, electrical and mechanical work, and performing landscaping tasks such as mowing and weed trimming. The Maintenance Specialist also maintains park vehicles, maintains a wide variety of small engines, ground maintenance equipment and hand tools, performs heavy maintenance on 54 miles of trails, cleans park facilities as needed, ability to frequently lift heavy loads over 50 lbs. and other duties as assigned.
Ability to identify minor issues and determine practical solutions under the guidance of more experienced personnel. Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with maintenance team members. Capacity to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and walking on various surfaces, which are common in maintenance duties. Applicant must be able to work a varied schedule including early mornings, frequent weekends, and holidays, be able to traverse rough terrain, and must possess a valid driver’s license. A driver’s record check will be performed.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The formal educational equivalent of a high school diploma or GED; OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of vocational technical training in maintenance; plus two years of experience in general maintenance, including one year in a leadership capacity.
