The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Job Summary

The User Support Specialist provides technical support and assistance to agency personnel in the use, configuration, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software applications, operating systems, and mobile technologies. This role serves as the first point of contact for end-user issues and plays a critical role in maintaining the smooth operation of IT systems within a state agency environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide first-level technical support for users via phone, email, remote access tools, or in-person.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to desktops, laptops, printers, software, and network connectivity.

Assist with setup, configuration, and maintenance of user devices and peripheral equipment.

Maintain accurate records of support tickets, resolutions, and hardware/software inventory.

Educate and guide end-users on system features, best practices, and cybersecurity awareness.

Escalate unresolved or complex issues to senior IT staff or specialized technical teams.

Coordinate with vendors and IT procurement for hardware replacement and warranty claims.

Participate in agency-wide IT rollouts, migrations, and software deployment initiatives.

Support account management activities including password resets and permission configurations.

Assist with documentation development including support guides and user manuals.

Maintain compliance with state technology policies and data security protocols.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS (desktop versions), Office 365 suite, and Active Directory.

Knowledge of basic networking principles (IP addresses, DNS, VPN, Wi-Fi troubleshooting).

Knowledge of state-issued software systems and standard IT tools used in Arkansas government agencies

Knowledge of security protocols related to data privacy, password policies, and state network access.

Knowledge of help Desk ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Zendesk, or similar.

Skilled in diagnosing and resolving technical problems efficiently and accurately.

Skilled in providing excellent customer service and technical support to non-technical users.

Skilled in managing multiple support requests and prioritizing work in a high-demand environment.

Skilled in writing clear and concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.

Skilled in working collaboratively with IT teams, vendors, and internal users.

Minimum Qualifications

At least one year of experience in a technical support role.

Licensure/Certifications
