Summary

The Psychologist Supervisor is responsible for coordination of the pre-doctoral internship program, administration and interpretation of psychological tests, and treatment of clients. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Provides general supervision of the work of subordinate employees by prioritizing work assignments, establishing deadlines, providing general instructions, and reviewing the work performed to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established policies and procedures. Coordinates the pre-doctoral internship program in clinical psychology by reviewing applications, supervising selection of interns, conducting orientation of interns, coordinating schedules, monitoring work assignments, and evaluating performance. Interviews and evaluates clients, administers scores, interprets psychological tests, and may submit evaluation or test reports to court or testify if requested. Reviews client records, social history data, and legal files of clients to recommend further evaluations and/or treatment placement. Conducts individual and group psychological therapy programs to monitor progress of clients, modifies programs as necessary, and prepares written evaluation reports on each client. Participates in team treatment planning of clients by interviewing clients individually or with other team members, evaluating interview data, and consulting with team members to assess problems and recommend treatment. Plans and conducts seminars for psychology interns, social work students, nursing, and medical students. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of psychological theories and the principles of human behavior. Knowledge of psychological testing procedures and evaluation methods. Knowledge of developmental theories in psychology. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to administer and evaluate psychological tests. Ability to conduct individual/group counseling sessions and develop individualized treatment plans. Ability to compile data, prepare reports, and maintain files. Ability to monitor and document behavior patterns and modify programs. Ability to instruct others in the implementation of psychological procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited institution or a substantially similar doctoral degree in a closely allied field; plus three years of experience performing psychological therapy and individual evaluations, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the State Board of Examiners in Psychology in accordance with ACA 17-97-302.  Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
