This position greets, registers, and checks out guests staying at the lodge and convention center complex, assists guests during their stay, and provides information to the public. Job duties include operating a cash register, selling merchandise, completing cash reports, handling transactions and paperwork related to lodge, cabins and campsites, stocking shelves, answering phones, providing information and assistance, and performing other duties as assigned. Excellent public relations skills are a must. A criminal background check is required.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, or related field. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Summary
The Desk Clerk is responsible for registering guests, computing bills, collecting payments, and maintaining records. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Receives and confirms room reservations over the telephone, accepts advance credit card deposits, and maintains front desk operations. Mails room confirmations, deposit receipts, and/or refund forms to customers. Greets and registers guests and assigns rooms. Answers inquiries and provides information pertaining to hotel services, guest registration, travel directions, and tourist attractions in the area. Keeps records of guests' accounts and posts charges to guest registration sheets. Totals and balances cash register with receipts recorded and reconciles differences. Compiles daily activity reports. Makes wake-up telephone calls to guests and relays messages. May sell gifts, maintain inventory of office supplies, conduct security checks of lodge and grounds, and assign work to custodial staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices. Knowledge of general office practices. Ability to understand and prepare oral and written material and information, including ledgers, journals, reports, correspondence, etc. Ability to establish and maintain filing systems. Ability to answer the telephone, greet visitors, and provide information and assistance. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
The education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, or related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
