Applicant must be available for disaster duty at any time.  Twelve-hour work schedules are possible and all ADEM positions are subject to 24-hour on-call duty in the event of an emergency or disaster.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:  Provide technical support and service of public safety wireless communications equipment.  The primary system is a P25, 700/800 MHz digital system.  In specific, the AWIN Network Support Analyst will be responsible for providing techinical support operating mobile and portable radio equipment, including dispatch consoles.  Provides training for AWIN users. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves radio systems problems. Monitors the Arkansas Wireless Information Network for issues including alarms and outages. Managers records in the AWIN database. Respond to request for service from AWIN users. Issues alerts and user notifications, performs periodic site inspections, works with service vendors performing programming requests, as well as provide radio support for events and incidents. Regular in-state travel, as well as occasional out-of-state travel. On-call rotation required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Basic knowledge of and ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve radio systems problems. Proven ability to communicate verbally and conduct briefings and presentations. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work in a team environment.

Summary

The Network Support Analyst is responsible for maintaining and designing the state data, voice, video, and wireless networks, and provide additional level of maintenance support for network users. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Designs data, voice, video, and wireless networks for the state. Evaluates network management and monitoring products as well as other vendor products. Monitors all network systems for potential problems. Makes recommendations for upgrades in order to support new technology or customer requests. Provides an additional level of maintenance support for all network systems and implements new network projects. Develops and maintains relationships with network users and vendors to provide best possible solution to customer needs. Supports core network hardware and software installations and changes. Designs and supports internet content filtering solutions for customers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge in design, management or troubleshooting of a large data network or a large wireless network. Knowledge of network monitoring tools. Knowledge of data, voice, video, and wireless networks. Ability to communicate orally and in writing and provide assistance in resolving technical issues. Ability to read and comprehend technical documents to resolve problems.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education of an associate's degree in information technology, computer science, systems engineering, or related field; plus two years experience in data network operations/design, or related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

All ADEM positions are designated as safety sensitive in which a person performing the duties of their positions while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or other controlled substances may constitute a threat to health, safety, or handling of confidential information. As allowed by law, all prospective employees who receive a conditional offer of employment are required to submit to a drug test. Refusal to take the drug test or results that indicate a presence of illegal drugs or prescription drugs for which the individual has no prescription will be the basis for precluding the individual from employment. Additionally, employees are subject to random drug and alcohol tests as a condition of continued employment.

 

This position has a mandatory 6-month probationary period.  This position also requires mandatory 5% contribution to the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System.
