ADEM is committed to responding quickly to the needs of the citizens of Arkansas during times of disaster, whether it be natural or man-made. ALL ADEM staff, regardless of position title, serve a role in the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) to aide in response efforts.
Roles and Responsibilities: The working title of this position is State Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) within the ADEM Recovery Branch. This position will serve as the primary coordination point between local, state, and federal governments and voluntary, faith-based, and community organizations responding to a disaster. The VAL will provide technical assistance to Arkansas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (ARVOAD), in the areas of volunteer coordination, donations management, and others providing disaster services. This position will gather pertinent information on activities of community based voluntary organizations and the ARVOAD to ensure that resources are being used efficiently, without duplication of services, in order to meet the unmet needs of disaster survivors during response and recovery. The VAL will coordinate and facilitate community Long-Term Recovery (LTR) groups, community outreach both pre-disaster and post-disaster, and build relationships, provide ongoing technical assistance and guidance to voluntary and community organizations to empower communities to recover from disasters. In state and out of state travel for trainings, conferences, and disaster related duties is associated with this position. Activation as a member of the Arkansas Emergency Operations Center may be necessary in the event of a major emergency. This may alter or totally change previously established duties and work schedules until the emergency is over.
