The mission of the Department of Military is to provide a professional staff of Arkansas State Employees who help maintain and improve the readiness of Arkansas National Guard units through effective fiscal management of State Resources, Human Resource Management, and quality administration of Arkansas National Guard Programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate through experience/education an understanding of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
  • Demonstrate through experience a working knowledge of construction and facility maintenance management principles.
  • Demonstrate through experience a knowledge of building inspection concepts for compliance with plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Must pass a Background Check for Installation Access and Network Computer Access.

 

Additional job duties:

  • Operations Management: Oversee daily maintenance, including repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Administrative & Financial Duties: Assist with budget management, manage vendor relationships, and report on maintenance performance.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and comply with regulations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance requests, repairs, and activities.
  • Strategic Improvement: Develop maintenance plans and continuously optimize procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other departments and customers to align maintenance activities with organizational objectives.
  • Overnight In-State Travel up to 30%.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Specialist provides essential support in managing the day-to-day maintenance operations within a facility or building complex. This role is focused on coordinating routine maintenance activities, processing work orders, and assisting in scheduling repairs and inspections. It is designed for individuals at the early stages of their maintenance management career who possess a foundational understanding of facility operations and are eager to learn and grow under the guidance of more senior team members.

Primary Responsibilities

Receive, log, and prioritize maintenance requests from internal teams or building occupants. Assist in scheduling and tracking routine inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks. Coordinate with maintenance personnel and external vendors to ensure timely completion of work orders. Manage calendars and maintenance logs to keep operations running on schedule. Conduct initial troubleshooting of minor facility issues and escalate complex problems as needed. Provide on-site support for small-scale maintenance tasks under supervision. Maintain accurate records of maintenance requests, completed repairs, and scheduled activities. Update databases or computerized maintenance management systems with relevant information. Adhere to health and safety guidelines and ensure that all work is performed safely. Assist with periodic safety checks and contribute to maintaining a hazard-free work environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Familiarity with basic tools and equipment, such as hammers, drills, and hand tools. A willingness to learn about electrical, plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and other systems relevant to facility maintenance. Ability to identify minor issues and determine practical solutions under the guidance of more experienced personnel. Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with maintenance team members. Capacity to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and walking on various surfaces, which are common in maintenance duties.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in maintenance coordination or facilities management, demonstrating expertise in handling complex maintenance projects.

Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
