The mission of the Department of Military is to provide a professional staff of Arkansas State Employees who help maintain and improve the readiness of Arkansas National Guard units through effective fiscal management of State Resources, Human Resource Management, and quality administration of Arkansas National Guard Programs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • The formal education of a high school diploma.
  • 10+ years of work experience in grounds maintenance and general labor.
  • 10+ years of work experience in operation of lawn care equipment.
  • 10+ years of work experience in maintaining lawn equipment. Ability to lift items 50 pounds or more during performance of work duties.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. 

 

Additional job duties:

  • Perform routine maintenance on state facilities, grounds, and infrastructure, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical work.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment necessary for maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintain state-owned grounds by mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, and watering vegetation.
  • Remove debris, fallen branches, and litter from parks, roads, and public spaces.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance, including leaf removal, snow removal, and ice control. Clean and maintain public buildings, offices, restrooms, and common areas to ensure a sanitary and safe environment.
  • Operate and maintain state-owned vehicles, lawnmowers, tractors, and other heavy equipment as assigned.
  • Assist in receiving and storing supplies, ensuring proper handling and organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The General Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks to support the daily operations of a department. This role involves assisting with maintenance, construction, landscaping, and custodial duties to ensure that state facilities, roads, parks, and other properties are safe, clean, and functional. The position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, digging, raking, and operating hand tools. Understanding of general repair techniques for buildings, equipment, and grounds. Familiarity with or willingness to learn how to operate maintenance and landscaping equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to follow instructions.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
