Job Summary
The Housekeeper Supervisor/Expert is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing and coordinating housekeeping operations in state facilities. This position supervises a team of housekeepers and ensures that cleaning procedures are carried out efficiently and in compliance with state regulations and health standards. The Housekeeper Supervisor/Expert provides expert guidance in cleaning and sanitation practices and ensures that staff are trained to meet safety and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities
The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts.
Supervise and lead a team of housekeepers by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring that cleaning and sanitation duties are completed on schedule.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, and proper disposal of waste.
Inspect the cleanliness of assigned areas, including offices, restrooms, hallways, and public spaces, and address any deficiencies in cleaning or sanitation.
Provide training and guidance to housekeeping staff on proper cleaning methods, safety practices, and the use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Develop and implement cleaning schedules and plans to ensure thorough sanitation of all areas within state facilities.
Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment and ensure that stock is maintained and replenished as needed.
Handle and resolve any cleaning-related issues or complaints from employees or the public.
Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, supplies, and staff performance.
Collaborate with facility management and other departments to address specific cleaning or maintenance needs.
May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
Knowledge and Skills
Extensive knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies, including their proper use and safety protocols.
Ability to manage and motivate a team.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards related to cleaning and sanitation.
Ability to assess and improve cleaning processes for efficiency and quality.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear instructions and feedback to staff.
Organizational skills to manage schedules, inventory, and cleaning tasks across multiple areas.
Ability to identify and resolve issues promptly.
Knowledge of OSHA standards and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of experience in housekeeping or custodial work.
Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
