Job Summary
The Housekeeper Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising housekeeping operations in a state-run facility. This role ensures all custodial and housekeeping services meet health, sanitation, safety, and quality standards, while overseeing staff performance, inventory control, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The manager promotes an efficient, clean, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Primary Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and direct all housekeeping activities and personnel to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment within the facility.
Supervise housekeeping staff, including hiring recommendations, scheduling, task assignments, performance evaluations, and staff development.
Train employees in cleaning procedures, chemical handling, equipment operation, and agency safety protocols.
Develop and implement housekeeping procedures, checklists, and quality control measures to ensure compliance with agency policies and state health codes.
Conduct regular inspections of facility spaces and coordinate corrective actions as needed to ensure cleanliness and safety.
Manage inventory and ordering of cleaning supplies, tools, linens, and equipment within allocated budget parameters.
Maintain records and reports related to cleaning schedules, inspections, supply usage, and employee timekeeping.
Coordinate with other facility departments (e.g., maintenance and administration) to ensure smooth operations.
Support infection prevention protocols and work with public health officials during health and safety audits or outbreaks.
Uphold workplace safety standards and ensure staff adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of principles and practices of commercial housekeeping in institutional or healthcare settings. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, chemical safety, and equipment maintenance. Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including infection control, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials handling (OSHA, CDC, EPA). Knowledge of supervisory practices including training, coaching, performance management, and employee scheduling. Knowledge of inventory and budget management practices relevant to custodial operations. Knowledge of facility operations in state government or public service settings. Skilled in staff leadership, delegation, and workforce motivation. Skilled in effective written and verbal communication. Skilled in time management and organizational planning. Skilled in conflict resolution and team building. Skilled in using commercial-grade cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently. Skilled in recordkeeping and reporting using paper or digital systems. Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet deadlines and maintain consistent service quality. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others with fairness and accountability. Ability to train staff in safety practices and ensure compliance with established procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to coordinate shared space and responsibilities. Ability to adjust to changing conditions and respond quickly in emergencies or facility-specific needs. Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of two years of experience in housekeeping or custodial work, including at least one year in a leadership or management role.
