Summary
The Arkansas State Police Driver's License Examiner is responsible for administering written and road driver license examinations to the general public. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Functions
Administers test for the issuance of driving permits and licenses by utilizing automated testing computer system, written tests, road tests, and vision tests. Performs pre-trip inspection on all applicant vehicles prior to administering road test in automobiles. Verifies the identification of all documents presented by individuals applying for a license. Performs background checks utilizing the Arkansas Crime Information Center or the National Crime Information Center. Maintains daily logs of the number of tests given and the pass/fail rate for driver's tests. Provides information to the general public on obtaining driver's licenses and directs the public to appropriate places and times for testing. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of state and federal driver's license laws and regulations. Ability to administer and score tests. Ability to provide information and accompany driver's during road tests. Ability to review vehicle related documentation and maintain files. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus six months of experience working with the general public as a driving instructor or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
