Summary

The Arkansas Fair Housing Commission (AFHC) Investigator is responsible for investigating fair housing complaints in the Arkansas Fair Housing Commission. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Investigates housing complaints, prepares and submits findings and recommendations for resolution of complaints, seeks resolution of complaints, and monitors adherence to conciliation agreement between parties. Prepares written reports and correspondence concerning the level of complaint activity and outcome of cases for supervisory review. Assists in planning and implementing preventive educational activities to ensure compliance with the spirit and letter of the Arkansas Fair Housing Act. Serves as liaison between the Fair Housing Commission, HUD and other housing agencies, as required or requested. Provides testimony in fair housing hearings or court. Attends meetings of the Fair Housing Commission and other organizations as required or requested. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of state and federal fair housing laws, rules, regulations, and procedures. Knowledge of human relations investigative techniques and methods. Ability to investigate complaints. Ability to interpret applicable laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines. Ability to analyze records and reports to determine compliance with laws. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in social science, business administration, or a related field; plus one year of experience in investigating employment, housing and public accommodations, or a related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
