Job Summary

The Website Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, building, launching, managing, and optimizing websites to ensure they meet organizational objectives and provide a seamless user experience. This role involves a combination of technical expertise and creative skills to build functional, visually appealing, and accessible websites. This role encompasses both the technical and creative aspects of web development, requiring proficiency in coding, design principles, and user experience (UX) optimization. The Website Specialist works closely with design, marketing, and information technology teams in an attempt to understand project requirements and implement best practices in website management, address performance issues, and incorporate user feedback for continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain websites, ensuring they are responsive, secure, and user-friendly. Collaborate with agencies to gather requirements and align website objectives with business goals. Collaborate with designers and content creators to implement visually appealing and consistent layouts. Code and implement website components using front-end languages like Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets, and JavaScript. Integrate back-end features such as databases or an application programming interface, depending on project requirements. Manage website performance, including monitoring uptime, speed, and overall functionality. Optimize websites for search engine visibility and accessibility compliance (e.g., Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, such as broken links, performance bottlenecks, and errors. Update and manage website content using content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, or Shopify. Implement analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to track website traffic and user behavior. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in website design and development. Coordinate with external vendors or developers for advanced technical requirements or integrations. Ensure website security by applying updates, backups, and protective measures against cyber threats.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Web Design, Graphic Design, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications in web development, user experience / user interface design, or specific platforms (e.g., Adobe Certified Professional, Google Analytics Certification) may be required. Experience with design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Figma may be required. Proficiency in front-end technologies like Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, and frameworks such as Bootstrap or React. Knowledge of content management systems like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace and website hosting services. Knowledge of web analytics, search engine optimization, and performance optimization tools. Familiarity with back-end technologies, including PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, Python, or database management systems.
