The anticipated starting salary for this position is $64,445.  This position will serve in a project manager role and will be responsible for working with cross-functional technical teams to complete a variety of projects.  Project management and team leadership experience is preferred

Summary

The State Network Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design and development of statewide network communications. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Maintains and administers computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations. Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations. Configures, monitors, and maintains email applications or virus protection software. Tests and configures computer hardware, networking software, and operating system software. Provides users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems. Consults with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives. Expands or modifies systems to serve new purposes or improve work flow. Determines computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter network systems. Writes documentation, to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections, and manuals for users to describe installation and operating procedures. Implements and provides technical support for voice services and equipment, such as private branch exchange systems, voice mail systems, and telecom systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Dimensions

On-call duty 24 hours, seven days a week for escalation of problem resolution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks. Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages, as well as client and server applications development processes and multimedia and Internet technology. Knowledge of computer systems, maintenance and updating of hardware and software. Ability to customize and update computer systems, as required by the needs of statewide agencies. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; plus five years of experience in network systems administration. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) within one year of hire; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) within five years of hire. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military or industrial setting; plus five years of experience in network systems administration. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) within one year of hire; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) within five years of hire. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
