Summary
The State Forester is responsible for overseeing the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division programs and field operations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and State of Arkansas and Arkansas Department of Agriculture policies and procedure.
Functions
The State Forester serves at the pleasure of the Governor and reports to and receives direction and supervision from the Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. The State Forester serves as Secretary to the Arkansas Forestry Commission by setting agendas and ensuring that Commission decisions are acted upon. The State Forester may serve on other boards or commissions as established by law or as authorized by the Secretary of Agriculture.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*Must be able to evaluate the needs of forest related stakeholders and the general public, and to assess the availability of human, fiscal, and capital resources in order to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services.
*Must be able to communicate and interact with a wide range of stakeholders, agencies, and branches of government.
*Must have knowledge of national forestry issues, keeping current on the impacts on Arkansas forestry, and be able to coordinate mitigation measures.
*Must have knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
*Must possess established experience with budgetary development and management.
*Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in forestry from a four-year university accredited by the Society of American Foresters, plus no less than five years practical administrative and field experience in forestry and have proven executive leadership of a forestry associated organization.
Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Licenses
Must be licensed as a Registered Forester by the State Board of Registration for Foresters in accordance with ACA 17-31-302.
