Minimum Qualifications – from OPM Job Specification

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field; plus, two years of experience in social or community service program activities or a related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements. Upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.

Job Summary – short description of overall job duties

The Department of Human Services (DHS)  Social Service Coordinator is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, evaluating, and reviewing DHS County Offices to ensure measure compliance with the provisions of FNS regulations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policies.

Special Requirements-

  • Must have completed Eligibility Training for SNAP, Medicaid, and TEA.
  • Must have experience reviewing SNAP cases
  • Must have experience determining eligibility in ARIES
  • Must be able to interpret and apply policy
  • Must have strong writing skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have the ability to research and interpret federal regulations as they relate to the SNAP Program
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office programs

Job Summary

The Social Services Coordinator manages and coordinates social service programs, ensuring that clients receive necessary resources and support. This role involves case management oversight, policy implementation, and interagency coordination to enhance service accessibility for Arkansas residents.

Primary Responsibilities

Oversee case assignments and workload distribution among social services staff. Ensure programs comply with state and federal guidelines. Develop partnerships with community resources and service providers. Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements. Provide training and support to frontline social workers.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong organizational and analytical skills Ability to manage and coordinate multiple cases and projects Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities Case management and service coordination Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques Knowledge of Arkansas social service laws, policies, and regulations Intermediate in data management, reporting, and documentation Familiarity with trauma-informed care and cultural competency Understanding of behavioral health and protective services
