Duties:

This position will be responsible for supervising a group of dorm students on a Sunday through Friday schedule and will work 3:00 pm through 11:00 pm.

Maintains constant supervision and accountability of students during duty hours to always provide a safe and healthy learning atmosphere. Works with other Residential Advisors, teachers, and counselors to monitor and report on student progress and development. Works with students to develop a functional understanding of personal growth including punctuality, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, laundry, personal hygiene, social skills, and behavior. Plans and directs student recreational activities. Assists students with personal care. Maintains positive attitudes and shows respect to students and staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position requires travel with students in and out-of-state to academic and sporting events as necessary. This position requires travel with students to and from home on Fridays or Sundays ten (10) times per school year.

Lifting up to 50lbs, ability to bend and push equipment (vacuum) is required.

Summary

The Residential Advisor is responsible for managing student behavior, in compliance with the institution's disciplinary code, providing supervision, care, and guidance to residents of state residential institutions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Manages student behavior in compliance with the school/institution's disciplinary code and with the school/institution's policies and procedures, state regulations, and law. Instructs and assists residents in learning personal care skills, housekeeping procedures, activities, and rules of the center. Supervises and assists residents with assigned housekeeping duties, monitors activities and behavior, to ensure safety, security, and cooperation of residents, and provides counseling for personal problems. Records behavioral and/or accident reports and notes behavioral and medical problems and rules violations of residents. Cleans and inspects dorm building for security and safety of residents and orders supplies as needed. Assists with bus duties, homework assignments, and school projects as needed. Communicates with supervisor and residents' parents, or guardians, to inform of behavioral problems, answer questions, and exchange information. Writes individualized plans for residents, stating goals and objectives, charts monthly progress, and administers a point system to reward behavior. Escorts residents on recreational activity trips and to campus facilities and performs body and room searches of residents for illegal and dangerous objects. Assists in selecting solutions to issues and problems that surface daily, such as personal relationships, group interactions, activity selections, and time management. Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to respond physically and constructively to violent and unusual behavior. Ability to perform general housekeeping duties.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in the care and welfare of dormitory residents. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
