Job Duties:
The program advisor (compliance specialist) acts as liaison to school districts, parents, and other stakeholders.; monitors compliance with hearing decisions and compliance actions required as a result of complaint investigations; monitors progress of hearings and complaint investigations to ensure compliance with timeframes required by law; informs individuals in conflict situations of appropriate processes for resolution; keeps abreast of current legislation, regulations, policies and litigation pertaining to special education; interprets laws, regulations, policies and procedures; provides technical assistance to special education staff, school personnel, parents; attempts to resolve potential dispute issues with the parties involved; oversees preparation and mailing of correspondence and documents; maintains and analyzes data on hearings and complaint investigations; and prepares reports. The compliance specialist works under the direct supervision of the coordinator for Dispute Resolution and Special Projects and will be responsible for special projects and other duties as assigned by program directors within the unit.
Successful applicants must possess or be eligible for a standard Arkansas educator’s license, a licensed special education instructional specialist or administrator preferred. The compliance specialist must have knowledge of special education laws and regulations, diverse types of disabilities, evidence-based instructional practices, and behavior management skills. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds is essential to this position along with advanced skills in conflict resolution. The compliance specialist must have excellent organizational skills and data analysis skills.

Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in public administration, educational administration, education, or related field; plus five years of experience in education, public school administration, or related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
