Summary

The Nutritionist Supervisor is responsible for supervising the development and implementation of nutrition programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Supervises nutrition staff in the planning and evaluation of nutritional components of health care services, program guidelines, and reporting procedures to ensure patient or student needs are met according to established guidelines and procedures. Consults with physicians and other medical professionals to assess data concerning health and medical components and recommends changes in new and existing nutritional programs. Provides technical expertise in therapeutic nutrition to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers in the planning of nutritional components of programs and projects. Interviews and recommends prospective employees to fill vacant nutritionist positions, monitors work performance, and prepares performance evaluations of incumbents. Interprets and disseminates policies and procedures to nutritional personnel and prepares and reviews administrative reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of nutrition services program management. Knowledge of nutrition components of preventive health and medical care services. Knowledge of nutrition as part of patient therapeutic management. Ability to analyze client needs and develop nutritional care plans. Ability to manage meal planning and food service systems programs. Ability to develop nutrition program policies and procedures. Ability to assign and coordinate work activities and monitor the performance of subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science or a related field; plus four years of work-related experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

Licenses

Must be registered as a Dietician or Dietician Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed or eligible for licensure as a Dietician by the Dietetics Licensing Board in accordance with ACA 17-83-301. Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
