Functions:

CNU is seeking a team member who will promote the health and well-being of children in public schools across the state of Arkansas. 

 

Applicants must be registered by the Commissioner of Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) or be registration eligible.

 

This position will be the prime contact for Superintendents, Child Nutrition (CN) Directors, Business Managers, and all other applicable positions for a regional assigned area consisting of 30-35 school districts.  This position provides support in meal patterns and nutritional quality, meal counting and claiming resource management of CN programs, and many general areas of CN.  Area Specialists have grown to be experts in multiple United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Programs including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Afterschool Snack Program, Seamless Summer Program, and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. These programs support the nation’s agriculture and provide meals for students from Pre-K through 12th grade. 

 

The right candidate will seek a passion for educating CN Professionals through training modules online and in person to support professional development requirements.  Federal programs administered by CNU are backed by the research conducted by the Institute of Medicine and current Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Summary

The Nutritionist Consultant is responsible for developing and presenting nutritional training programs and consultations for agency or institution service providers. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Develops or modifies nutrition program menus, policies, and procedures by researching demographic and other statistical data of clients, evaluating current quality of services provided, researching related literature, and coordinating with other health organizations. Advises service providers of client nutrition requirements, policy and procedures of programs, and special nutrition needs to ensure program compliance. Assists in development of overall annual program goals and objectives for providing nutrition and health services to clients. Evaluates program effectiveness by conducting site visits and reviewing reports and other data submitted by agency or institution providers to ensure compliance with federal and state program rules and regulations. Prepares reports evaluating overall effectiveness of a nutritional program and recommends methods of improvement. Develops nutritional training programs by assessing needs of service providers and conducting technical research, preparing training aids and nutritional resource materials for use by service providers, and presenting training programs to staff members and/or service providers. May supervise a small professional staff by interviewing, recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Performs other duties as assigned.

Dimensions

Limited in-state travel is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of nutrition program requirements and procedures. Knowledge of food systems management techniques. Knowledge of nutrition as part of patient therapeutic management. Ability to plan, develop, and conduct training sessions and technical assistance programs to communicate information on dietetics and foods systems management techniques. Ability to evaluate programs for compliance with policies and procedures. Ability to develop and modify nutrition program policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a dietician by the Arkansas Dietetics Licensing Board in accordance with ACA 17-83-301, and a bachelor's degree in nutrition science or a related field; plus four years of work-related experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
