Job Summary
The IT Manager is a key leadership role within the state, responsible for overseeing and managing the state’s IT infrastructure, services, and systems. This role entails supervising IT staff, managing resources, coordinating technology projects, and ensuring that the state’s technology infrastructure is secure, reliable, and efficient. The IT Manager will collaborate with other departments to identify technology needs, implement solutions, and continuously improve IT services. Additionally, this role will ensure the alignment of IT strategies with the broader goals of state operations and facilitate the smooth integration of new technology systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the state’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and security systems.
Ensure that all systems are running efficiently, securely, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Manage and lead a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
Allocate resources and assign tasks to ensure that the team is meeting objectives.
Plan, organize, and oversee IT projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Work with cross-functional teams to define project goals, create project timelines, and ensure the timely delivery of IT solutions.
Collaborate with other state departments and agencies to implement new technologies and improve existing systems.
Ensure that the state’s IT systems comply with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
Oversee the implementation of security measures to protect the state’s data and infrastructure from cyber threats.
Identify and resolve issues within the state’s IT systems and infrastructure.
Continuously monitor and assess system performance, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Maintain thorough documentation for all IT systems, processes, and projects.
Provide regular updates to senior management on the status of IT initiatives, infrastructure health, and security compliance.
Work closely with the state’s security team to monitor and address security risks.
Oversee the integration of new applications, hardware, and systems, ensuring that they are aligned with the state's operational goals and IT infrastructure.
Knowledge and Skills
Proven experience managing IT teams and overseeing large-scale IT projects.
Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems administration, and enterprise-level technologies.
Strong skills in project planning, organization, and execution.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage resources, and ensure projects are completed successfully and on time.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Strong analytical skills to identify areas for system improvement and propose effective solutions.
Knowledge of IT security best practices, including data protection, access controls, and threat mitigation.
Experience ensuring compliance with relevant security standards and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required, plus five (5) years of experience in IT management, including experience in system administration, project management, and team leadership.
