Authorities & Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities are as follows:

- The forensic DNA analyst is responsible for performing DNA analysis and specifically delegated QA responsibilities from the Casework Supervisor.

- Present expert forensic testimony in court on DNA methodology used to analyze evidence and obtain results
- Participate in pretrial conferences and provide consultation to law enforcement and judicial officials on evidence collection, preservation methods and analysis results.
- Verify the correct operation of scientific instruments and perform routine maintenance as needed. Prepare and verify reference materials and reagents according to established guidelines
- Review current scientific literature. Study and validate new forensic analytical procedures and modify new and/or old procedures as necessary
- Attend and participate in professional meetings and seminars to keep abreast of new technologies and methods in chemistry
- Assist with training new laboratory staff in performing standardized laboratory tests.

Minimum Qualifications
The Forensic DNA Analyst shall have at a minimum, a BS/BA degree in a biological, chemical, or forensic science, with undergraduate or graduate coursework in genetics, statistics, biochemistry, and molecular biology (molecular genetics or recombinant DNA technology). With a minimum of nine (9) cumulative semester hours or equivalent that cover the required subject areas. Before performing casework, the Forensic DNA Analyst will be required to successfully complete a training program that will include competency sample testing, written and oral examination, and a mock trial.
