The Department of Public Safety’s mission is to enhance the safety and security of all Arkansans through ethical, character-driven behavior that promotes professionalism, clear communication, and accountability while serving as the state’s premier public safety agency.


This individual will be responsible for the receipt, review, and processing of criminal fingerprint cards that constitute a printable criminal charge received from any law enforcement agency in the state of Arkansas. Fingerprints are submitted electronically as well as physically mailed in to process through the AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) for inclusion to the Arkansas Crime Information Center state repository criminal history file and the Federal Bureau of Investigation database. Civil fingerprints submitted for backgrounds for licensing or employment purposes will also be processed by this individual. All electronic submissions are real-time and will need to be monitored and processed timely. Other duties are as follows:

   Constant processing of information using computers, scanners, and printers

  Fingerprint Comparison

  Fingerprint Identification

  Daily contact with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies

  Interpret and review criminal history information

  May be called to fingerprint the public for various purposes

Monday thru Thursday DAYS – 10am – 8pm

The Fingerprint Technician is responsible for processing, classifying and verifying fingerprints through the Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC). This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Processes fingerprint cards by entering the information into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and checks cards in ACIC for SID number and/or criminal records. Identifies and classifies fingerprints by searching files or classifying prints by numerical value and requesting identification through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and returns illegible fingerprint cards to requestor. Maintains state and criminal fingerprint files and researches files for identification or verification, as requested by various criminal justice agencies and employers. Enters and retrieves fingerprint information and transmits messages electronically to law enforcement agencies. May fingerprint individuals for the purpose of identification, criminal history, and job application. Performs other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of fingerprinting techniques and practices. Knowledge of general filing systems and procedures. Ability to make comparison and distinguish differences in fingerprint identification. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to maintain files and records.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in records systems maintenance, or related area, including one year working with fingerprints. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
