Summary

The Deputy House Properties and Facilities Coordinator is a classified position within the Arkansas House of Representatives and is responsible for assisting with the supervision, maintenance, and operational readiness of House facilities located within the Arkansas State Capitol and other House-assigned spaces. The position supports the delivery of a safe, secure, clean, and functional environment for Members of the House of Representatives, House staff, and the public, with heightened operational demands during legislative sessions or meetings.

Functions

• Assist in maintaining the daily operational readiness, cleanliness, and safety of all House of Representatives facilities, including but not limited to the House Chamber, galleries, committee rooms, offices, and meeting spaces.

• Assist with monitoring and coordinating janitorial services during legislative sessions and other periods of increased activity, as directed.

• Perform light maintenance, minor repairs, and routine facility support tasks using basic hand tools and equipment.

• Conduct periodic and preventative facility assessments to identify maintenance, safety, and operational needs.

• Assist as a liaison between the Arkansas House of Representatives and the Office of the Arkansas Secretary of State regarding major maintenance, repair, or facility-related issues within the State Capitol.

• Assist with identifying, ordering, purchasing, tracking, and maintaining supplies, furnishings, and equipment in accordance with State of Arkansas purchasing policies and procedures.

• Assist with compiling, maintaining, and reconciling House property and inventory records in compliance with state requirements.

• Respond to requests from House Members and House staff related to facilities, office configuration, room setup, and property concerns in a timely, professional, and service- oriented manner.

• Assist with the setup, breakdown, and reconfiguration of offices, committee rooms, and meeting spaces for legislative sessions, hearings, and official House functions.

• Utilize basic computer systems for communication, inventory management, and work coordination.

• Identify and appropriately escalate maintenance, safety, or security concerns through established supervisory and state reporting channels.

• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the operations of the Arkansas House of Representatives.

Work Environment and Conditions

• Work is primarily performed indoors within the Arkansas State Capitol and other House facilities; limited outdoor work may be required.

• Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, and extended hours during legislative      sessions or special events.

• Position may be required to respond to urgent or time-sensitive facilities needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic building maintenance principles and the safe use of hand tools and light equipment.

• Ability to maintain accurate inventory records and ensure adequate supplies.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with elected officials, staff, contractors, and partner agencies.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Basic computer proficiency, including email and electronic recordkeeping.

• Ability to perform light to moderate physical labor, including lifting, standing, walking, and occasional climbing.

• Experience overseeing or coordinating the work of others is preferred

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or the formal education equivalent.

• Experience in facilities maintenance, custodial services, building operations, or related field.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Arkansas driver’s license.

• Successful completion of a criminal background check in accordance with State of Arkansas employment policies.

• Must comply with all State of Arkansas policies related to professionalism, confidentiality, workplace safety, and ethical conduct.
