Works in the TSS/DIS State Cyber Security Office, Security Operations team. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to leading and managing the Security Operations Team, recommending security enhancements, responding to and reporting on Cybersecurity issues, maintaining current knowledge of security systems and processes, providing 3rd level support for technical security issues.

Summary

The State Systems Administrator Lead is responsible for statewide software and system monitoring to ensure availability to all system users and to perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Provides general supervision of the work of a subordinate professional, para-professional, and administrative support staff, engaged in system administrative activities by assigning and prioritizing work assignments, providing instructions, reviewing work performed, and evaluating employee performance. Monitors network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and determines where changes will need to be made in the future. Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Plans, coordinates, and implements network security measures. Performs and coordinates system backups and recovery. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of computer systems, maintenance, and updating of hardware and software. Knowledge of strategic planning, computer resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources. Knowledge of indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system. Ability to customize and update computer systems, as required by the needs of statewide agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; plus six years of experience in systems administration, plus two years of supervisory experience. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military or industrial setting, plus six years experience in computer support, plus two years of supervisory experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
