DAH- Arkansas Historic Preservation Program


The Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism has three major divisions: Arkansas State Parks, Arkansas Heritage and Arkansas Tourism. Arkansas State Parks manages 52 state parks and promotes Arkansas as a tourist destination for people around the country. Arkansas Heritage preserves and promotes Arkansas’s natural and cultural history and heritage through four historic museums and four cultural preservation agencies. Arkansas Tourism improves the state’s economy by generating travel and enhancing the image of the state.

Internal Job Descritption:

 

The DAH Program Coordinator (Technical Coordinator) is responsible for operating the AHPP Technical Assistance Program.  Position reviews project plans for the AHPP County Courthouse Grants, Historic Preservation Restoration Grant Projects, Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources’ Council funded projects and reviews proposed work for projects funded by the National Park Service.   Position will provide technical assistance in all areas of preservation technology; disseminate literature and information on specific topics and technology associated with historic preservation; will provide limited architectural and interior design services, review architectural plans and specifications and conduct site visits and building investigation. 

 

Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications:  Formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation, history, English, education, general business, public administration or related field; plus two years of experience in a specific program related area.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Formal education or experience in history, historic preservation, architecture, design or construction.

Summary

The Department of Arkansas Heritage (DAH) Program Coordinator is responsible for adherence to division/department program policies and procedures, service delivery of statewide or department wide programs, and participating in the strategic planning process. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Functions

Applies goals and objectives of programs according to established state laws and agency policy/regulations. Performs cost analyses for grants and forecasts service needs. Provides technical support to various departmental agencies, including preparing, reviewing, and recommending related educational and resource materials. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and recommends methods of program improvements. Writes program publications and develops and conducts public presentations on program areas. Maintains appropriate contact with federal, state, and local officials and other members of the community. Represents the agency in meetings, conferences, and workgroups. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in historic preservation, history, English, education, general business, public administration, or a related field; plus two years of experience in a specific program related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
