Temporary Legislative Proofreader
Summary
The Bureau of Legislative Research is accepting applications for full-time employees for temporary legislative proofreading services on site in the Statutory Review Section during the upcoming regular session of the General Assembly.
Typical Functions
Legislative temporary proofreaders work on site and assist in reviewing bills, amendments, and acts of the General Assembly and perform technical edits as assigned. Regular contact and collaboration with reviewing attorneys, editors, and administrative staff is required.
Special Job Dimensions
Periodic work outside of normal office hours is required. Successful candidates must pass a background check.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, journalism, communication, or a related field is required. Related work experience in publication or editing plus an associate’s degree may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. Applicants must possess excellent knowledge of grammar and punctuation rules and be able to function effectively as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent reading, writing, and communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, journalism, communication, or a related field plus a minimum of one year of related experience is preferred.
