Position Summary
The Division of Workforce Services Assistant Controller Provides supervisory guidance to a subordinate accounting supervisory and professional staff by establishing work plans and staff assignments, resolving difficult or complex problems, and evaluating employee performance. Reviews general ledger and subsidiary accounts to verify balances and processing of year end closing. Allocates funds for new and existing accounts when establishing and maintaining general ledger on department operations. Research outstanding checks and balances for preparation of report for unclaimed property. Tracks and reconciles unexpended accounts. Evaluates current and future data processing needs related to quality control and reporting procedures. Prepares financial reports, budget projections, special project costs, expenditure analysis, and federal grant reports. Provides technical assistance to departmental officials by interpreting data and details of various accounting reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Professional Work Experience
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, or finance; plus, four years of experience in accounting including two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Key Business Processes/Duties
- Prepares, analyzes, and/or interprets proposed and existing legislation, fiscal laws, budget directives, and policies to implement internal and external directives and provides technical expertise and assistance to department divisions in development of biennial and annual fiscal programs.
- Attends legislative committee meetings, tracks legislative recommendations for division level budgets, prepares associated documents for presentation to the General Assembly, and keeps abreast of laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
- Oversees development of biennial and annual division level budgets; coordinates the development of new applications and procedures, as needed, to ensure data integrity and proper interfaces between multiple automated systems, by establishing guidelines and schedules for system development and monitoring the progress and validity of updates.
- Prepares funded budget schedules, salary projections for department operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
