The Attorney General of Arkansas Tim Griffin is seeking to hire an attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Opinions Division. This position requires excellent research, writing formal, legal opinions for the Attorney General’s review and assisting the General Counsel in responding to Freedom of Information Act requests for Attorney General office records. Attorneys in the Opinions Division have an opportunity to serve the Office and the State while developing subject-matter expertise in a vast array of state constitutional and statutory law and some areas of federal law.
The successful candidate will: Be licensed to practice law in Arkansas; Demonstrate outstanding abilities in (1) legal research, (2) writing, and (3) analytical thinking; have a track record of producing work that is thorough, accurate, and timely; and show a commitment to being a lifelong learner who is always growing in knowledge, communication skills, and interpersonal abilities.
Broad knowledge of state and federal constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and familiarity with state government are all desired but not required.

Summary
Incumbent serves as an Assistant Attorney General within the Opinions Division.
Functions
1. Conducting research and writing for formal legal Opinions; Conducting research and preparing memoranda on complex legal issues; and Responding to Freedom of Information Act requests.
2. Legal work performed is characterized as routine where factual questions are involved with clear applicable precedents.
3. Incumbent is responsible to handle routine factual or policy issues that involve research, analysis, and obtaining and expert testimony or information in areas of scientific, financial, corporate, medical, engineering, or other technical areas.
4. Conducting legal research.
5. Analyzing the factual and legal issues. Reviews policies, procedures, regulations, technical manuals, and other agency publications. Study industry and trade practices. Conducts research of laws, legal opinions, policies, regulations, legal texts, and precedent cases bearing on the legal issues involved in the problem, proposal, or case. Conducts pretrial examination of witnesses. Preparing memoranda or reports outlining the facts and legal issues, analyzing the factual and legal issues involved, explaining the application of legal principles and precedents, and justifying recommendations or conclusions.
6. Acts regularly as the legal adviser or the plans and operations of a single program or activity. Incumbents of positions at this level of performance are expected to plan, organize, and conduct studies of routine legal problems, cases, or legislative proposals encountered in their respective programs.
7. All other duties as assigned.

Ability to complete work accurately with respect to legal citations, treatment of facts, and other aspects of technical treatment. Ability to produce written work that demonstrates soundness of approach and argument, application of legal principles, and that is consistent with the governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the employing agency.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university. Prefer at least 3-5 years experience in related field
Licenses
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Arkansas.
