ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Office of the Attorney General seeks a dynamic and skilled Assistant Attorney General for our State Agencies Division. This unique position offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage in diverse legal practices and directly impact the State of Arkansas.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Provide comprehensive legal representation to over 130 state agencies, boards, commissions, and higher education institutions.

- Advise on a wide range of legal matters including administrative law, regulatory law, employment law, contract law, and property law.

- Represent boards during licensure violation hearings and subsequent appeals in the Arkansas Circuit Courts, Court of Appeals, and Arkansas Supreme Court.

- Assist agencies in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, employee disputes resolution, and interpretation of laws enacted by the Arkansas General Assembly.

Summary

Incumbent serves as an Assistant Attorney General within a department or program.

Functions

1.    Legal work performed is characterized as routine where factual questions are involved with clear applicable precedents.
2.    Incumbent is responsible to handle routine factual or policy issues that involve research, analysis, and obtaining and expert testimony or information in areas of scientific, financial, corporate, medical, engineering, or other technical areas.
3.    Conducting legal research.
4.    Analyzing the factual and legal issues.  Reviews policies, procedures, regulations, technical manuals, and other agency publications.  Study industry and trade practices.  Conducts research of laws, legal opinions, policies, regulations, legal texts, and precedent cases bearing on the legal issues involved in the problem, proposal, or case.  Conducts pretrial examination of witnesses.  Preparing memoranda or reports outlining the facts and legal issues, analyzing the factual and legal issues involved, explaining the application of legal principles and precedents, and justifying recommendations or conclusions.
5.    Acts regularly as the legal adviser or the plans and operations of a single program or activity.  Incumbents of positions at this level of performance are expected to plan, organize, and conduct studies of routine legal problems, cases, or legislative proposals encountered in their respective programs.
6.    All other duties as assigned.

Dimensions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to complete work accurately with respect to legal citations, treatment of facts, and other aspects of technical treatment.  
Ability to produce written work that demonstrates soundness of approach and argument, application of legal principles, and that is consistent with the governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the employing agency.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a juris doctorate.  Prefer at least 3-5 years experience in related field.

Licenses

Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Arkansas.
