Investigate allegations of child abuse while working in conjunction with state and/or local law enforcement investigators, prosecutor’s offices, employees of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, agency policies and protocols, and interagency agreements. Conduct interviews, may assist in criminal investigations, and enter information into the Children’s Reporting and Information System (CHRIS). Compile documentation, reports, and transcripts of all allegations of child abuse. Present factual testimony in Administrative hearings, Juvenile and Criminal proceedings. Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements: Occasional 24 hour emergency on-call duty is required. Frequent in state travel is required.

Summary

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) / Crimes Against Children Division (CACD) Investigator is responsible for the investigation of allegations of child abuse. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Investigates allegations of child abuse while working in conjunction with state and/or local law enforcement investigators, prosecuting attorney's offices, employees of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, agency policies and protocols, and interagency agreements. Conducts interviews, may assist in criminal investigation, and enters information into the Children's Reporting and Information System (CHRIS). Compiles documentation, reports, and transcripts of all allegations of child abuse. Presents factual testimony in administrative hearings, juvenile proceedings, and criminal proceedings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Dimensions

Occasional twenty-four (24) hour emergency on-call duty & frequent in-state travel is required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of investigations in general. Knowledge of child abuse issues and state and federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of the social issues in child maltreatment investigation. Ability to understand and prepare written and oral information. Ability to apply laws, regulations, and protocols to investigative determinations. Ability to read and interpret federal rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education of a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, criminology, or related field; OR the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus five years of experience in law enforcement, including  two years of experience in criminal investigation. Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
