Summary

The Arkansas School for the Deaf (ASD) / Arkansas School for the Blind (ASB) Transportation Services Coordinator is responsible for directing and coordinating the transportation services department for the Arkansas Schools for the Deaf and Blind. This position is governed by federal and state law and agency policy.

Functions

Supervises a small staff by assigning and reviewing work, establishing procedures, approving leave, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Assists in operating motorized vehicles, including buses, vans, mini-vans, buses, and trucks to pick up and deliver people and materials or to act as courier to transport mail or messages. Coordinates daily transportation routes, vehicles used, number of drivers needed, etc., and communicating information to and from schools. Prepares and organizes a daily transportation schedule to ensure the timely transportation of students; monitors driving records and route pick-ups. Responds to phone calls and complaints from parents or authorized school personnel regarding transportation issues. Conducts training with staff on transportation safety, rules, and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing school transportation. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and safety requirement of motorized vehicles and equipment. Ability to interpret state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines governing programs and services. Ability to research and review information and submit findings in a written and oral reports.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of work experience in commercial driving, school transportation programs, or a related area. Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver's License. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
