Summary

The Agri Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing and implementing various programs, and conducting outreach activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Directs the work activities of a small professional staff including interviewing and hiring, reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Plans, coordinates, and directs program planning, development, and administration by establishing operational priorities and coordinating these operations with other functions within and outside the division and agency. Plans and coordinates the implementation of new programs, develops program goals and objectives ensuring compliance with federal and state levels. Monitors the use of agricultural chemicals to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Plans and implements inspection procedures in order to maintain consistency within the agency. Determines when re-inspections should be performed and when quarantines should be enforced. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws, and United States Department of Agriculture regulations applicable to services. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of organization and administration. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships. Ability to maintain accurate and orderly records. Ability to organize and direct activities.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in agriculture; plus two years of experience in an agriculture program, including one year in supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agriculture degree and/or experience pertaining to urban and community forestry, natural resources, horticulture, or environmental science.
  • ISA Certified Arborist.
  • Experience in cultivating relationships among municipalities, non-profit organizations, community outreach groups, state/federal agency partners, and/or other groups.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing grant administration.
  • Knowledge of state budgetary and accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written technical information and materials.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply state and federal laws and regulations governing grants administration.
  • Ability to develop, monitor, and evaluate grant program compliance.
