Department: Capitol Facilities FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary
Maintains the State Capitol Grounds.
Functions
Includes but not limited to the following:
- Keeps the Capitol lawn and grounds maintained in a neat, professional appearance
- Mowing, trimming hedges and trees, removing weeds, blowing sidewalks and roads, mulching and disposing of leaves.
- Picks up trash and empties all trash containers around the Capitol.
- Performs planting for beds and flower pots around the Capitol.
- Lays sod for grass
- Services and washes SOS vehicles and grounds equipment.
Dimensions
Physical Demands: The Employee must be able to sit, stand and walk. The employee must be able to regularly lift and or move 50-100 pounds. Employee must be able to tolerate working in different weather conditions, which will require being out in the cold of winter and hot of summer for long periods of time.
Work Environment: Employee will work outside in all weather Conditions and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and vibrations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED, Prefers 3 years’ experience in grounds Maintenance.
Language Skills: Ability to read and write, comprehend simple instructions.
Mathematical/Reasoning Skills: Able to follow instructions and do basic math.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver’s license
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Prefer to have at least 3 years prior grounds maintenance experience.
- Must be able to use mowers – push and zero turn; string trimmers, tillers, chainsaws, tractor, and blowers
