All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary

The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) / Department of Community Correction (DCC) Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overall maintenance of buildings and grounds and equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Supervises the work of groundskeepers and maintenance staff by establishing work schedules, assigning specific duties, and reviewing work performed on a regular basis to ensure adherence to deadlines and proper procedures. Participates in preventive maintenance activities and supervises structural repairs of buildings and grounds. Makes routine inspections of the heating, cooling, and electrical systems. Develops annual preventative maintenance schedules and receives work orders and assigns to proper shop for completion. Makes reassignment of duties based on needs assessment. Provides in-service training for employees on equipment, safety, and procedural changes. Conducts on-site inspections to ensure quality of work, determine maintenance requirements, and comply with safety regulations. Maintains and complies information, such as inventory of equipment and supplies, job status reports and budget documentation. Oversees and participates in maintenance repairs of building and grounds. Monitors building and grounds for public safety and security and checks safety systems, such as emergency lights, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance techniques and equipment. Knowledge of inventory control techniques. Knowledge of state purchasing procedures. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on various types of electrical and mechanical equipment following safety procedures. Ability to conduct on-site inspections to determine compliance of work with departmental standards and regulations. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of lower-level supervisors, skilled and semi-skilled workers. Ability to maintain adequate supplies and inventory records.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in one or more skilled trades, including two years of supervisory experience. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
