SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS/PREFERENCES: Position is located at the Arkansas Health Center in Benton, AR. This position starts at the Entry Rate of $43,088.00/Annually. May be required to work additional hours on occasion and respond to emergencies involving vehicles, generators or special equipment repairs. May be required to work in harsh weather conditions. Job will include the typical physical requirements to perform work, such as kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and working with the use of a creeper, ladder, etc. Prefer for applicants to have experience and skills to service and operate tractors, backhoes, front end loaders. May require lifting and carrying items up to 80 pounds. Oversees an inmate crew from the Department of Corrections to perform ground maintenance.

Job Summary

The Trades Specialist performs skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep of state-owned buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This position is responsible for completing a variety of tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, and general repairs. The Trades Specialist ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on state buildings, including inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing structural, mechanical, and electrical issues. Conduct minor plumbing repairs, such as fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and clearing clogged drains. Install, repair, and maintain doors, windows, locks, and other structural components. Assist in maintaining HVAC systems, including filter changes and routine troubleshooting. Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and report major issues to supervisors. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, pressure washers, and paint sprayers. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on state-owned maintenance equipment. Prepare surfaces and apply paint, stain, or other finishes to walls, ceilings, and furniture. Patch drywall, plaster, and other surfaces as needed to maintain building appearance.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC maintenance. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Ability to assess maintenance issues and determine effective solutions. Understanding of maintenance schedules and best practices for keeping equipment and buildings in good working condition.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Additional vocational training in a skilled trade is preferred, plus at least one (1) year of experience in maintenance, repair, or a skilled trade.

Licensure/Certifications

No certifications required, but vocational training in maintenance or a skilled trade is preferred. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
