This position will have a broad range of responsibilities in all phases of management and operations for an 820-acre recreational state park. Job duties include providing information and assistance to the public, participating in park programs and interpretation, interpreting rules and regulations, cooperating with other government agencies, and serving as a primary supervisor in the absence of the Park Superintendent. Other duties include interviewing, training, directing and supervising employees in the operation of the park, maintaining performance files on employees, preparing inventory and operation reports, and assisting in the budget preparation. This position is responsible for the safety of the park and its visitors by obtaining voluntary compliance with laws and regulations and is a vital part of the park’s management staff. Applicant will patrol for possible thefts, illegal hunting, vandalism, and other violations, administer first aid, and other duties as assigned. This position is subject to working varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Criminal background check and driver’s record check are required.

Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications: the formal educational equivalent of a bachelor's degree in park administration, parks and recreation management, natural science, recreation administration, or a related field; plus, one year of experience in park management, including six months in a supervisory or leadership capacity.

Summary
Functions
Supervises a small staff of regular and seasonal, professional, technical, administrative support and service workers by interviewing, recommending for hire, training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Oversees the operation of a specific portion of a large park, such as a boat rental facility, visitor information center, snack bar, or other park facility. Prepares and manages a park budget, and monitors daily expenditures and the scheduling of work hours for regular and extra help employees to prevent overspending. Participates as part of a planning team to develop or expand programs and facilities, alter procedures, determine revenue sources and cost containment, and monitor operations, facilities, and programs to ensure that goals are met. Develops operating plans and schedules for year-round operations, including preventative and routine maintenance schedules, construction projects, and special events, and estimates materials, manpower, equipment, time, revenue, and costs required to support operations. Assists Emergency Services section on scheduling and job assignments of law enforcement staff. Participates in or leads search and rescue teams to rescue climbers, stranded boaters, or lost visitors and administers emergency first aid to accident or illness victims. Compiles, prepares, or oversees the preparation and maintenance of records and reports, which may include financial records and reports, incident/accident reports, purchase requisitions/reports, and a variety of other reports as required. Interprets and monitors the maintenance or development of natural, cultural, and historic research sites to prevent disturbance of unique or endangered flora, fauna, and cultural remains. Makes public presentations regarding park facilities, operations, or special events to civic organizations, schools, and others to promote Arkansas State Parks. Performs other duties as assigned.
